Welcome to the Bulloo IT Muster

These are computer workshops aimed specifically at the typical person who lives and works in remote communities in Outback Australia. Such a person can turn a hand to many different jobs. Not afraid of hard work, self managed learners and always willing to lend a hand to others.

People who live in remote communities are used to being self-sufficient. They function pretty well as self managed learners and are not generally phased by new technology - they tend to figure out how to use the damn thing but will acknowledge that there is plenty more they could know.

As computers have become part of many outback workplaces, people who would not consider themselves as "academics" have taught themselves new skills to handle the operation and technical support for these often pedantic marvels of the electronic age. In doing so they have become "client support" persons for their workmates, families and friends.

As the computer is such an essential tool of small business enterprises, new jobs are opening up in the small rural areas as computer support persons. There is a real need for client/technical support persons to be located outback. In the past these people have come from the city, and few stay as there is a different way of doing things outback - taking the distances in one's stride is one, developing innovative solutions without recourse to immediate replacement parts is another, the expectation of the client that they be educated in whatever the technician is doing so as to be able to handle their own problem solving, and the peculiar outback work ethic of getting the job done right before knocking off, adds yet another complexity for the city trained support person. Remote Australia may present quite a cultural challenge - knowledge not covered in the Diploma, University Degree or Vendor Certification course is assumed by clients and this can make for some quite unsatisfactory encounters.

Rural people have always earned money by working "off farm" to carry their enterprise through the lean times. This first level course in Client Support will give you the opportunity to fast track your skills & knowledge development and obtain a formal qualification in Client Support thus providing a pathway to employment in IT.
